Call for candy

The other night I was on Twitter and innocently put it out there into the twitterverse that I was willing to bring some U.S. candy to Oz if anyone was interested in making a request.  The response was quite enthusiastic.  How enthusiastic you ask?

The conversation around Reeses and Hersheys and cinnamon lollies (whatever those are) became so hot and heavy that this happened:

Yeah.

So. Now I know how to win friends and influence people in Australia. Sugar. Or maybe it's just us sleep-deprived mummy bloggers?

While a lot of you tweeted me your requests, your tweets were quickly lost in my twitter stream. So I'm writing this post as your official chance to make a request for bad American candy.

This is how it's going to go down, folks.

Seeing as how I have a limited baggage allowance we're going to have to all get by with a sampling of our favorite candy.  But seriously, I'm happy to indulge -- and I love a challenge (remember, I can get anything through customs).

Here's what I want you to do.

1) Leave a comment on this post with your request.

2) Show up at AusBlogCon at the designated drop off point (i.e. fancy schmancy hotel)

3) Transactions will occur here:

4) In case anyone's curious, I cannot get the following in Kansas (and have been known to cry into my pillow about it on more than one occassion):

Just. Saying.

5) Staying for margaritas optional.

  4. @ Kim - Charleston Chews?? Wow, do they still make those? I remember those from when I was a kid. I'll see if I can find some!

  5. Hershey Kisses. But only a couple because I'm trying to be good ;) xx

  6. I'm not so much into candy, but I would give my first born for a real American cinnamon bun. They won't let you take those through customs though. The lollies should be right as long as they are packaged up. I reserve the right to drop by, despite not ordering candy crack.

  7. I think we are all kids at heart when it comes to candy!

  8. Well you should have room in your suitcase to take home some kit kats, violet crumbles and tim tams :)

  9. You were trending - this elevates you from super star to MEGASTAR in my opinion!
I've never tried Candy Corn, but it's got corn in the name so I don't think I'll bother with that one. I'm told Reece's Pieces are the bomb so I'd have to choose those... just don't say bomb on the plane, mmmkay!?
Will your lovely sponsor be providing us all with toothpaste after we've eaten all this sugar? :)

  10. I am with MaidinAustralia - Cinnamon Bun OH MY GOD

  11. Tootsie anything oh and the peanut butter cups. In return I will give you my first born er, no. I will supply you with violet crumbles.

  12. @ Glowless, I imagine toothpaste will be in there, they have lots of swag planned!

  13. Well, that's just the final insult. Not only can I not go to this event but there is also going to be free chocolate which I am going to miss out on. Harrumph!

  14. I haff challenge!!!

Because I'm already heavily addicted, and have two nearby stores I buy all my candy from, not to mention usafoods.com.au, I have MOST of my needs met.

    However.

I can't live without creamer, and liquid Coffeemate is my favourite. I cry when they bring out the seasonal varieties every Christmas, and I can't have them. Sob! If you can somehow get liquid Coffeemate through customs, I will die forever in your debt. Or will just send you regular parcels of Violet Crumble, even though Crunchies are a million times better! I once tried to get creamer through, but they wouldn't let me as it didn't say made in the US or somesuch, and were worried the milk products within may have been sourced from China... this is my challenge. This message will self-destruct in ten seconds...

  15. Don't worry if you cant find them Kristin, I have a friend in Florida who sends them to me :) I think she gets them from Wal-Mart.

  16. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I would love to have a Reese Peanut Butter Cup, they are sooo yummy! Please let me know if you need money or aussie candy or something else in return.

  17. Ok, I would like some cheeseburgers from Five Guys. How can we make that happen? Actually, you know what I would love? A tourist thing with the word KANSAS on it. Preferably making reference to the Wizard of Oz.

    :)

  18. Are you stopping over in Rio de Janeiro?

Hmmm, probably not... oh never mind.

  19. Well.
NOW I'm upset that I deleted my twitter account and didn't get to see this! What a cool thing to do! And they do still make Charleston Chews for Ms. Frogponds.
I always see them at gas stations.

  20. Can I please skip the chocolates and go straight to the margaritas?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Looks like:
    A. You're going to need a couple of extra bags for the candy.
    B. You had better have a bar set up for all those margaritas!

  22. Good luck with getting that lot through customs! I hope you have plentiful bra space for that lot - I don't recall it being so easy to get food into Oz!

Make sure one of your Aussie friends does the decent thing and introduces you to PODS - though coming off them when you return home is not pleasant so I hope you are stronger willed than me!

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ Glen, this is the 2nd time you've mentioned Pods. I'm going to have to find out what they are. Am now intrigued. And Crunchies. Will have to try that too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ Steve, I'll send you a special care pkg if you'd like!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ VeggieMama - don't those have to be refrigerated?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Peanut butter M&M's ... OH BABY!

P.S: Totally sticking around for margaritas!

  27. The GOFA asks if it's possible to get a real Oreo biscuit. He knows it's not candy, so don't fuss if it's a bit hard to get to here! For me, can i just join in for margaritas? I love lollies, but have no idea about what's made over there.

Will email you separately hopefully tonight. X

  28. @ Watershedd - absolutely, on all accounts!

  29. You can't get Violet Crumble or Kit Kats over there in Kansas? Why the heck not? That's a travesty!

Violet Crumbles are a bit hard to find over here in SoCal (they're popular in NorCal), but (un)fortunately, the store right by my work sells them.

And now I want one after typing about it. Thanks a lot! :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ahh, my attention to detail sucks nowadays. Kit Kat dark... gotcha!

(Un)Fortunately, I can get those here as well. They don't really do it for me the way a Violet Crumble does, but I wanted say no to one.

I'm still depressed on your behalf about the Violet Crumbles. I may have to do something about that for you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pods are awesome! I'll bring you some.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ Becky - You can get Violet Crumbles in California??? Who knew! And hello, you can barely get alcohol in Kansas, much less anything the least bit exotic. You lucky girl!

    @ Learncreatedo - Pods. I think I need some pods! x

    ReplyDelete
  33. Let it be said up front that I do not like Pods. KitKats? Meh...However I do like Violet Crumbles and Crunchies, which are essentially the same thing, made by a different manufacturer, the honeycomb in a Crunchie is a different texture and stronger flavour, and the chocolate coating has a slightly different taste. Violet Crumble's honeycomb is finer and denser.
You realise after putting this on the web, you're going to need two extra suitcases to take home all the Violet Crumbles and Dark Kit Kats that people will bring you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the idea of peanut butter m&ms!! You used to be able to get cinnamon chewing gum - but that might not exist anymore! You know the margaritas will definitely be needed to wash them all down!!! Safe travels, see you soon xx

    ReplyDelete
  35. So, what time does the bar open?

Don't know much about US candy, but I do luuuuurve margaritas...!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Violet Crumble hey.....mmmm lets see what we can do. As my three (3)! kids are so fascinated with America as am I, I know they would really be so excited to receive three little Hershey Kisses..or anything else for that matter. I mean, it's not for me, it's for them..of course.

    ReplyDelete
  37. you know... faced with this post I can't think of a single US candy that really floats my boat... though I remember being in heaven when I visited the US in my 20's....
But I'm bringing stickers (if they arrive from the printers in time) and I'll swap you a sticker for something sweet....
