Sunday Selections - Australia

It's hard to believe my trip to Australia is just around the corner. As such, it seemed appropriate that for this week's Sunday Selections I pulled some photos out from my last sojourn Down Under. It wasn't all that long ago: September 2009. Right before I started this blog as a matter of fact.  It was the first overseas trip I'd taken in probably 20 years, and the first one ever where I stayed in hotels and not youth hostels. I went with one of my closest friends. Three weeks without kids, without work, without husbands. It was decadent.

We flew into Sydney and from there traveled to Adelaide and the Barossa Valley. I did a weekend meditation retreat in the Adeladie Hills, then met up again with my friend and we headed to Kangaroo Island. After that it was onto Alice Springs where we joined a camping "safari" through the outback, then off to Cairns for a sailing and snorkeling trip.  Sadly, the sea and me, we did not dance well. I yakked my way across the Great Barrier Reef. Then it was back to Sydney for a couple of days and home again. We crammed all that into three weeks. It was quite spectacular.

  3. It's such a beautiful place! You probably saw more of the country in 3 weeks than I've seen in the last 10 years!
I hope the next trip is just as wonderful.
The kids will love it too.

  15. I'm ashamed to say I live right here in Aus. and I haven't seen those places, except for the Adelaide Hills because my eldest daughter lives there with her family.
The Remarkable Rocks and the Mangrove are my favourites.

  22. I'd LOVE to go to Kangaroo Is. I'm so glad you got to boat (sorry about the yakking tho!) around the GBR. Amazing stuff, gorgeous photos too. Scrubs up pretty good, doesn't Our Lady Aus?
