It's my party and I'll lie if I want to

To celebrate my birthday this year I decided to give myself the gift of youth and I'm turning a year younger (which will make me 33 for those who must ask *cough*).

The day started out with me opening my eyes to find my six-year-old son staring directly into my face. "Happy birthday Mommy," he whispered, "is it time to open your presents?"

"Shhhh..." I told him and pointed to his sister who was curled up asleep on the end of the bed, courtesy of the morning's thunderstorm. But he would have none of it. He slid off the bed and started lining up the "gifts" he had wrapped the week before (gifts he had gathered from around the house while I was banished to my room and told 'not to peek'). The shuffling awoke his sister, who popped up and joined in on the gift-lining-up action.

I opened the presents one by one. "Ooh, a stuffed tiger?" He smiled proudly. "And what's this? A baseball?" That wasn't all though. There was a pair of kids scissors, a box of rocks, some individual packets of sani-wipes and even a book I had given him for Christmas! My daughter gave me a honey bear and a picture she drew of herself that said "I'm in your heart." They wanted to make me coffee in bed, but I demured.

When they asked what I wanted to do for my birthday, I told them that I thought we should all go to Union Station, which is a local kid wonderland in downtown Kansas City. They have an interactive museum/play area called Science City that is hours of fun for children. True to form, they had fun for hours.

As we were leaving, a woman stopped me and asked if I was Kristin, the blogger from Wanderlust. Why yes I was. She said that she read my blog and recognized me from the picture on my home page. She shared a bit of her personal story with me and offered some lovely compliments and encouragement. It was so rewarding to make a personal connection, however brief, with a reader while wandering out and about. And I'm surprised she recognized me, seeing as I'm now a whole year younger and all.
