Cash donation option for Senegal birthing clinic

Thank you for the enthusiastic response to yesterday's post about the clinic in Senegal. For those of you who missed it, I have a midwife friend who is traveling to a birthing clinic in Senegal in November, to teach and bring much needed supplies.

Many of you asked if there was a cash donation option, as mailing packages from overseas is clearly not cost-effective (and who wants to write SPECULUM on their customs slip?).

I spoke with Kristine and she said she will take donations via a paypal account and use any money raised to buy much-needed medication for the clinic.

The medications they most need are:
  • anti-hemorrhagics (pitocin, methergine and cytotec)
  • malarial meds

As you may be aware, malaria is a huge problem in sub-Saharan Africa. The disease kills over 1,000,000 people every year in Africa alone. Young children are the most vulnerable to infection and death, and the clinic treats pregnant mothers with the medications so as to safeguard the children.

If you are able to help, you can send money to Kristine via paypal to honeymother @ 100% of the donations will go to buy medications.

Thank you so much to those of you who asked about making a cash donation. What big hearts you have.
