Foster Mama

The other day I had to sit down with my significant other and explain to him that, as much as I love our family the way it is, I have been overcome by a yearning for more children. I'm a little old for babies, true, but tell that to my heart.

I'm not alone in this, I added. It happens to a lot of middle-aged single women with large literary collections.

He looked at me skeptically.

In fact, I told him. I had taken it upon myself, without consulting him, to add to our family. And oh by the way about that one door that remained closed no matter how long he sat in front of it?

Behold...

Yes. It's official. I am a foster mom.

Pretty exciting, huh?

I couldn't keep this to myself, so I called my middle-aged single friend Celeste and told her to put down that book and get over here!

She came.

Five kittens, five weeks old. Lance, Laura, Lou, Laney and Larry. Here with us until they are big and healthy enough for adoption.

I know. You wish you were me, right?

    1. Yes, it will be sad to say goodbye in a couple of weeks. But on the bright side, my bathroom will smell a lot better.

  2. I do actually, wish I was you, and have my eye on one of them now, while trying to think of how to explain to the two dogs and my own cranky old guy S.O. that I really need this. Alas... reality will bite me I'm sure. But they are soooo cute! Especially the fluffy tabby in front of the smokey black kitty baby.... oh, but look at that orange little one ... and the white nose baby ... stop me now please...

  3. I love them! They are so precious. I would love to be a kitten foster mom, but I don't think Tim would quite go for it.

    1. Yes, fortunately I only had to get my kids' buy-in. And that wasn't too hard.

  7. Nooo Larry is mine, all these other people are loving on my Larry - sigh, wish I was living over there and Larry would be mine, mine I tell you. Max just needs a little brother to play with and I needs some marmalade love in my life.

    1. You need an American cat to add to your Viennese collection.

They are all so incredibly adorable. It is very good to share kittens with friends.
I will be you, in this, one day. Until then, I get my kitten fix at the rescue shelter I volunteer at.

    1. Every time I think about keeping one of them, I just need to go down to the basement and scoop the already-well-used litter box. That usually does the trick. But yeah, they are pretty adorable. x
