My name is Kristin. I was born in California, requested transfer to Australia, and through a bureaucratic f*ck-up was dumped by the Universe in the middle of the Midwestern Plains.

I'm a nonprofit executive who works too many hours, a mother, a sometimes world traveler, a neglectful housekeeper and a dreamer extraordinaire. I write around the corners of all of this.

In a former life I pissed off an Egyptian god and as punishment my days are now spent in bonded servitude to cats. They made me put up this page.

On a more serious note, I recently went through some pretty significant trauma. You can read the whole story here. As a result, I often write about domestic violence and child exploitation. They are difficult topics, are far too prevalent, and we need to talk about them.

Going through this, while painful and frightening, proved to be an awakening for me. I learned to speak my truth, to stand my ground, and to value myself. For these gifts I am grateful.

It also means that I am due some pretty spectacular karma. I see it as an opportunity for the Universe to make up for the whole oops-sorry-welcome-to-Kansas thing.

Here are some things I’ve been a part of that make me happy:
  • Created the Healing through Storytelling blog directory, where readers can easily locate and connect with bloggers who write about a variety of challenging life experiences such as illness, grief, addiction, trauma and abuse.
  • Created Speak Out, a social media campaign to drive awareness of domestic violence.
  • Voice of the Year and keynote speaker at the 2011 Australian Bloggers Conference in Sydney.
  • Circle of Mom’s 2011 Top 10 Most Inspiring Blogs.
  • Contributor to the upcoming book Bucket Lists, by Justin Zackham.
  • Contributing writer at Her Collective.
  • Contributing writer at The Imperfect Mum.
  • My story is featured in Upside: Transforming Trauma into Growth, by Jim Rendon (due out Fall, 2015)
  • My story is featured in Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference, 2nd Edition, by John Capecci and Timothy Cage (published August 2015)

PR Peeps: As a rule, I don’t do sponsored posts. I will work on collaborative projects that support charitable causes. I would consider occasional giveaways if the products are of especial interest to my readers (examples would be chocolate, vodka and free babysitting) or myself (examples would be chocolate, kittens and trips to Australia). My cats, on the other hand, are total media whores and will review anything.
